The story of the Listowel Memorial Hospital dates back to February of 1919 when Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hay donated the J.W. Meyers residence on Inkerman Street to the Town of Listowel for use as a hospital, officially opening in February 1920.
In 1939, members of the family of the late J. W. Scott donated their Elizabeth Street home and grounds to the Hospital Board - and after renovates were made, the new hospital officially opened on January 23, 1941 with 33 beds, operating room, laboratory and x-ray facilities.
With increasing demands, it became apparent the facility needed to expand. In November of 1962 a new wing was opened.
The Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation is a registered charity, that was established to raise, manage and disburse the funds necessary to enhance our health care by purchasing state of the art equipment and supporting programs and assisting them.
