Press Release from The Great War Flying Museum
Andrew MCKeever Commemorative Fly-Over on June 22
It is my pleasure to announce a fly-over ceremony by The Great War Flying Museum to honour the memory of our great Canadian hero, Lt. Col.Andrew McKeever. Here in Southern Ontario, we have a rich history that needs to be continually learned, taught and celebrated. Andrew McKeever was a top ranking ace of the Great War who flew a two seat Bristol Fighter for most of his operational career. We will feature our Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter which was itself, such an aircraft in the mid-war period. In formation, we will over-fly the gravesite of McKeever, Listowel’s greatest hero.
The Great War Flying Museum, operated by the Ontario Aviation Historical Society, is a not-for-profit volunteer member organization. The GWFM was founded in 1970 by a group of Brampton Flying Club members as a ‘living’ museum, bringing to life the sights and sounds of Great War aviation. Our members include pilots, mechanics and historical researchers, all who absolutely loved aircraft and in particular, WW1 aircraft. Our aim is to keep alive, by preservation and education, the memory of those daring young aircrew and people in support who served Canada so valiantly.
The fly-over commemoration will take place on June 22, 2024 with a rain date of June 23. Everyone who sees our fly-over is welcome to visit us at Brampton Airport throughout our flying season.
