On Wednesday September 18, you are invited to attend a social development workshop called "Bridges out of Poverty". This course will help us understand what it's like to live in poverty and also how poverty affects our community.
Poverty is a social problem that calls for a social solution. We can't fight poverty by alleviating its symptoms. We need to attack the factors of poverty. This requires understanding and empathy. Programs like foodbanks are necessary but they address symptoms, not the bigger problem. We need to stop giving people fish and give them the tools to fish for themselves.
I hope you will invest in our community by giving your afternoon (1-4pm) to attend this course. The cost is only $20 and subsidized spots are available for anyone who needs them. Please sign up and join us as this is an opportunity to make significant change in our community. I look forward to seeing you there.
